How to show page links to secondary pages in search results of Google

When people work on Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) of their site and they find out the competition or other types of sites out there get Google to display their site AND secondary pages in the search results they always wonder how they can get Google to do this. The short answer is no, you cannot make Google do this.

Sitelinks

These secondary pages that get loaded for certain sites are added by Google if according to them they deem them useful. See this Google Document  with more information. For the blog of a client of ours Bakfiets En Meer Google created these links:

Google Sitelinks Explanation in brief

Here their feedback on sitelinks in more detail:

“We only show sitelinks for results when we think they’ll be useful to the user. If the structure of your site doesn’t allow our algorithms to find good sitelinks, or we don’t think that the sitelinks for your site are relevant for the user’s query, we won’t show them.”

“There are best practices you can follow, however, to improve the quality of your sitelinks. For example, for your site’s internal links, make sure you use anchor text and alt text that’s informative, compact, and avoids repetition.”

So if you think you can work more on internal linking, making sure all images have alt tags and making sure you do not repeat yourself in your articles please get right to it. And if you need help with these things do not hesitate to email me or to leave me a tweet.
